I can’t thank you enough for putting on the Summer Camp ‘09 last month! My girls both had such awesome experiences! Friends and family members that came to the performance were so surprised to see the girls up on stage singing solos, dancing in front of everyone, and delivering all of their lines! Your camp brought out confidence in my girls that I never knew they had previously. They never knew they could act or have a chance to be in a real drama production.
Congratulations on a GREAT performance on Saturday night! Absolutely amazing what you guys were able to accomplish in just a week!!
We are all so very thankful that the Clifton Performance Theater has become a part of the community now. CPT has been a huge blessing for our family and my girls now have memories that will last their entire lives. Mere words could never express my gratefulness for lifelong happy childhood memories!!
Thank you for your extra care of our daughter last week. Despite a few bumps (and fever) along the way, she had a wonderful time and is definitely interested in doing it again!
Clifton Performance Theatre Summer Camp 09 was a wonderful experience for my daughter. When you first relayed that she would be Alice, I was speechless. When I relayed the message to her, she was speechless. We were both taken back. It is not the norm for us, African-Americans, to land the leading role in a non-African-American production. Being an African-American Alice in a production where the majority of the cast is not a people of color impacted our lives. Colorblind casting is truly a testament to the world of creative arts and imagination. Your theatre company truly embraces the wonderful world of drama, creativity, imagination, and the magic of live theatre. We thank you. We know God answers prayer if it is his will, but it was also willful on your part. My daughter will now approach auditions and future opportunities knowing color will not be viewed as a handicap but merely symbolic of her pride and confidence.
Thank you Tatiana and Carol for your patience with our daughter, and the love and support you showed her. I wish you could hear her walking around the house belting out songs from Mary Poppins at the top of her lungs.
You guys did a fantastic job. I think our son would be interesting in doing more performances and rehearsals in the fall. He had a great time.
…We believe that the Clifton Performance Theater is a unique and outstanding resource in our community. Our daughters have been greatly enriched through their participation in the performance classes throughout year and the summer camp production of Alice in Wonderland. The production opened their eyes to the enjoyment of participating in the performing arts. Through the expert instruction and nurturing approach of Carol and Tatiana, our girls are excited about the performance arts, but more importantly they have formed through their experience a multicultural community of participation and collaboration.
Our daughter tremendously enjoyed last week’s camp. She’s still playing the ‘Alice in Wonderland’ CD and singing and dancing with it. She enlists her younger brother to act out the parts with her. Thanks to you, Tatiana and Carol, and all the other people involved, for making it a great experience.
Last spring, just by chance, we found the beginnings of the musical theater in the CCAC . We put our eight- year-old into the production—a boy with no experience, and with parents completely without any orientation in that subject area—of an incredibly stimulating musical. Many of the disadvantaged and underprivileged young children of the city have parents in the same situation—completely unaware of the essentials needed to start their children in theater. To find a highly-dedicated group of instructors who are trying to start such an incredible resource in our community—on a financial shoestring at that —is an absolute blessing. It is a blessing not just to this family, but to the entire city of Cincinnati.
Such dedicated, talented, and experienced individuals and leaders in theater are probably not unique in the field of theater, although we seem to be lucky that this group has come together with a common vision. What is probably more unique is that they have such an incredible commitment to create something out of nothing. They are intent on giving a gift to the community and they should be given tremendous support.
Our son grew noticeably in the two weeks he studied in the musical theater performance. His theater instructors praised his concentration and focus. This is in complete contrast to his teachers across the street from the CCAC who have for the past three years complained that he should be on drugs for ADD or ADHD. The performance chosen (Alice in Wonderland) in itself was a brilliant selection as it is not only a literary classic, but the product of a great logician, Lewis Carroll. The suble logic and literacy of the piece worked to drive thought and habits of analysis on many different levels. For the younger students the curiosity and cleverness of the logic and word play are extraordinary. For older children the complexity and astute observations on science are entrancing. For adults watching the play works as an intellectual challenge as well. One can only pray that the work could become a repertoire piece as it has the ability to drive intellectual curiosity as much as teaching the theater arts.
As it turned out, our son was so invigorated, affirmed, inspired and motivated in a subject area we would never have been able to provide the needed guidance that we regularly evangelize on the discovery we made at the CCAC. If the definition of enthusiasm is a little knowledge catching on fire, then we have a nine-alarm conflagration here and the best idea for the community would be to keep throwing fuel on the flames!
