Week three of our “Aladdin” Summer Camps is over. The cast is ready for a weekend of performances.

Our amazing staff has done a wonderful job with the young kids, who were for the most part new to Clifton Performance Theatre (all but five of returning students)

This new crew of ‘Aladdin’ summer campers is younger than ever – but perhaps the learning curve is faster with younger children, because they’re blazing through the songs and dances like there’s no tomorrow.  They’re all really happy and fairly energetic, and since most of them already know each other, the kids have a great time hanging out during break periods and working together on the show.  Maybe they’ll bring even more of their friends in to watch them perform this weekend!

First the script is written, music composed, recorded, arranged and prepared.

Then, director, music director and choreographer work on the vision and build all the elements. Designers create costumes, sets, lighting cues (in our case, this is all done by a very small team of dedicated individuals) and casting directors cast the parts. 

The actors come together. Some know each other from before, some meet for the very first time. They all work together.  And then on the day of the first run through, everyone feels the magic of the show coming together.  

We are close to show time. And ready to share our talents and magic with you. There are 10 tickets left for Saturday’s performance and only a few more for Sunday.

The kids are doing so well with “Aladdin” that everything is moving ahead of schedule – it is really quite remarkable how much they have been able to accomplish in only four days. Their comfort level with the songs, dances, and script bodes well for some great performances this weekend! When the kids aren’t running their scenes, they play improvisational games outside, which is great way to get them thinking outside the box as they invent new characters and build camaraderie with one another.

Campers of week one were super excited to start learning dances, songs, and blocking the scenes. The kids loved the acting games and crafting props for the show.

The students were introduced to something new; the oriental feel of the show’s original music, and very much enjoyed it.
